Festivals and Local Events in Copper Canyon
Copper Canyon de as Casas has several festival throughout the year. Although they are mainly religious celebrations you can often see local events within each city along the Copper Canyon route. Below is a list of events or festivals that take place in Copper Canyon Mexico throughout the year. Mar or April - Semana Santa - Holy Week, processions, celebration of Masses throughout the state. In some towns, the Burning of Judas ritual takes place, represented by paper-maché figures and cartoons of historical or contemporary personalities.

Festival de Turismo de Aventura
Draws hundreds of visitors from all over the world each year. Takes place in July and August. During the festival, these areas host challenging competitions, such as a marathon, mountain biking, rappelling, rock climbing and sandboarding.

SEPTEMBER
Sept 15 - Día de la Independencia - (Independence Day) September 15 & 16. Military parades and reenactment of the Grito or call for independence from Spain in 1810.

Nov 1, 2 - Día de los Muertos - (Day of the Dead). Altars are built in homes, markets and shops to honor and receive dead souls which return to earth once a year. The day of the dead is considered a festive celebration rather than mournful event celebrating departed loved ones.
DECEMBER
Dec 12 - Día de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe - (Virgin of Guadalupe Day).The Virgin of Guadalupe is the patron saint of Mexico. She appeared to the Indian Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac in the early 16th. Celebration includes mass, serenades and pilgrimages.
